On December 5, 2025, the postal service issued a commemorative postmark for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) – ENDES 2023 survey, more than 50% of women in Peru have suffered some type of violence (physical, sexual, psychological, or economic) at the hands of their partner or husband.
In 2023, the services of the state program National Aurora Program (under the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations) attended to 320,867 cases of violence against women and members of the family group.
According to the Ombudsman's Office, 170 femicides were registered in Peru in 2024—the highest figure recently recorded—of which 10 were girls or adolescents.
In the period 2022–2024, the cumulative number of femicides exceeds 450 cases.
Furthermore, in 2024, 7,097 missing persons alerts were reported nationwide, an increase of almost 37% compared to 2023.
According to the same report, the majority of disappearances were of girls and adolescents.
Cases of attempted femicide have also been documented: in 2024, 69 attempts were reported, in addition to 35 violent deaths not yet classified as femicides.
